These crispy fried green tomatoes are made with a breading of cornmeal and breadcrumbs. Super simple to prepare and the air fryer makes them nice and crispy.
Add the eggs, buttermilk, and hot sauce to a second shallow dish and whisk until smooth.
Add the cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper to a third shallow dish and stir to combine.
Dip the tomato slices one by one into first the flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. Press the tomato into the breadcrumbs to be sure the coating sticks.
Spritz an air fryer basket with non-stick spray and arrange the breaded tomatoes in a single layer. You may need to work in batches. Spritz tomatoes liberally with non-stick spray.
Air fry at 390 degrees for 5-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Subsequent batches will cook a bit faster as the air fryer will be hot.
Notes
For a Cajun twist, add your favorite Cajun seasoning to the cornmeal breading. We tend to keep the breading pretty simple and go big with a dipping sauce, like this dipping sauce for fried green tomatoes. If you'd like more flavor in the breading itself, add in your preferred seasonings.
