Our AIR FRYER CHEX MIX is the perfect party snack! This recipe tastes just like the classic homemade Chex Mix, but it’s made in minutes in the air fryer!
Chex mix has been around for over 50 years, and it’s always been a favorite snack!
Perfect for parties or just munching on while you watch a movie at home. Our air fryer Chex Mix reminds me of childhood with the mix of textures and bold savory flavors – just like my mom used to make every Christmas!
Traditionally, Chex Mix is made in the oven or microwave, but you know us…we air fry everything because it’s usually faster and it almost always tastes better! This is no exception.
Ready in just 10 minutes, so you can be snacking in no time!
Ingredient Notes:
Cereal – We’re using Corn, Rice, and Wheat Chex, but feel free to mix and match with your favorites.
Mix-Ins – We’re adding peanuts and mini pretzels to our air fryer chex mix. Bagel chips also make a great addition.
Seasoning – We’re keeping it classic with butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoned salt.
How to make:
Combine– Grab a large mixing bowl and put in your cereal, pretzels and peanuts. Give it a stir combine.
Season – Stir together the melted butter, Worcestershire, and spices and drizzle that over the cereal mixture. Stir to coat.
Air Fry – Add this cereal to your air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F. You will want to shake the basket halfway through cooking to keep the cereals evenly cooking.
FAQ:
Chex used to be made by a man named Purina. The same Purina company he started is now commonly associated with dog food. In the 1950’s he was making cereal. A wife of one of his executives made a seasoned mix of his cereals and served them at a party and it was loved. From there it grew and grew in popularity and eventually General Mills started making and packaging it themselves in the late 1980’s.
Officially, General Mills offers 13 types of Chex mix. However, if you make it yourself there are thousands of options! Feel free to get creative!
Recipe Tips and Substitutions
No Chex? Try using Crispix cereal instead.
Cheerios also make a fun addition to the Chex, if you want even more cereal.
Always find yourself picking around the wheat Chex? Just leave them out and double the corn or rice Chex to make up for it.

Made this earlier this week and it’s delicious! A previous reviewer asked how long it would last and you replied that it would last about 2 weeks. For some reason, mine only lasted a few days! I probably should make more to see if it lasts longer this time. 😉
Karly Campbell says
Hahaha, good luck with that! 😉

I want to try some of your recipes. We have a ninja air fryer. When should I remove the little shelf and when should be left in?
Karly Campbell says
Hi Janet! Ninja has quite a few different air fryer models. Do you have the oven style or the basket style? If it’s the oven, the shelf will be used like an oven tray to hold your food, so you’d want to leave it in. If it’s a basket style, I’m not sure what shelf you’re referring to. I’d read the manual or recipe book to see what they recommend for cooking so you can get a feel for how it works.

Turned out pretty good, just a little too much season salt.
Bunny says
Completely burnt. You need to do this at a lower temp for longer
Karly Campbell says
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear this one didn’t work for you! My guess is this is a case of air fryers cooking differently, because it works perfectly for us at this time/temp.
Terry Hopper says
Karly, how much Chex mix to use per cooking? I use the basic ingredients plus cashews and pecans, instead of peanuts. I also use premium mixed nuts also. Bagel chips and cheerios are also used.
Karly says
Hi Terry! I’m not sure what you mean. Our recipe is included towards the bottom of the post (above where you commented) and that lists all of the ingredients and amount needed. Ddi you see that?
