Our air fryer recipe for wonton jalapeno poppers is super simple. With a handful of ingredients (including jalapenos, bacon, and cheese!) these cook up perfectly crispy in just 5 minutes!
Wontons are an Asian dumpling that are often steamed, fried, or added to soup! We took the delicious wonton wrapper and filled it with one of our favorite American creations – the jalapeno popper!
This recipe works so well because it gives our familiar bacon jalapeno poppers a super crisp shell. The cheesy center, the heat, the crispy wrapper – it’s all hard to resist!
We have made jalapeno popper bites in our air fryer before, which are similar to this but made with soft, fluffy biscuit dough. If you loved those, you will love these too!
We love that these are easy to customize – make them as spicy or as mild as you like!
This recipe makes a bunch of these wonton jalapeno poppers too! Perfect for serving a crowd at your next gathering or party! Plus these are great for keeping leftovers to reheat later in the week!

Cheese – You will need a single block of room temp cream cheese for this recipe. You will also want some freshly shredded cheddar for the best results. Pre-shredded works fine, but doesn’t melt quite as nicely.
Bacon- We use our air fryer bacon and crumble it up after it cools a bit.
Pepper– We mince one medium jalapeno pepper for this recipe. Leave the seeds in for extra heat or remove them for a more mild popper. You can use less jalapeno if you really want to tone the spice down.
Seasonings– We will add salt, garlic powder, and onion powder to the filling for full flavor!
Wrappers – We need wonton wrappers, they usually come in a package of 12-16 so you will likely need 2 packages. We find these in the vegan section at our local stores.
You can use packaged shredded cheddar and canned jalapenos to cut down on prep time, if needed.
How to Make Wonton Jalapeno Poppers in an Air Fryer :
- The filling– In a small bowl combine your cream cheese and shredded cheddar. After it is well combined add in your crumbled bacon, jalapeno, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Again stir well until combined.
- Wrap the wonton– Add about two teaspoons of filling into the center of each wrapper. Dip your finger into water and run it around the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper over into a triangle and press the dough lightly to seal.
- Air fry the wonton– Spritz your air fryer basket with non-stick spray and arrange the wontons in an even layer. Spritz the wontons liberally with oil spray and air fry at 350 degrees for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown. You will likely need to work in batches unless you have a huge air fryer. Subsequent batches will likely take less time as the air fryer will be hot.

Reheat them in your air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes or until crispy and heated through.
Freezer Instructions:
These are perfect for making ahead and storing in the freezer!
Make the recipe as directed, but do not air fry. Instead, place the wontons in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet and freezer for 1 hour. Transfer partially frozen wontons to a freezer-safe bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Cook straight from the freezer for 8-10 minutes.
Recipe Tips!
These are tasty when served with ranch dressing for dipping.
For a more mild popper, use a jar of tamed jalapenos in place of fresh. For extra heat, be sure to leave the seeds and membranes in while mincing the pepper.
Not a fan of bacon? Make our air fryer sausage patties and chop them up to add to this in place of bacon!
