Ingredient Notes:
Shrimp – This recipe calls for a pound of frozen shrimp that are peeled and deveined. Tail on or off is up to you. We used medium shrimp in this recipe.
Garlic Butter – To season the shrimp, you’ll just melt together butter, fresh minced garlic, and parsley. We also include some red pepper flakes for heat, but that’s totally optional.
How to Make Frozen Shrimp in an Air Fryer:
Cook the shrimp – Do not thaw your shrimp – this recipe was developed to use frozen shrimp straight from the freezer.
Spritz your air fryer with oil spray or brush the oil on. Then add your shrimp to the basket and spritz some oil over the shrimp. Sprinkle them with salt and pepper and stir while they are in your air fryer basket. Cook at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes. Halfway through cooking shake or stir the shrimp to cook them evenly.
Make the garlic butter – While the shrimp are cooking, put the butter and garlic in a bowl and microwave until the butter has melted. Stir in some red pepper flakes for a little kick.
After you remove the shrimp from the air fryer and add to a serving bowl, drizzle this butter over the shrimp, sprinkle with parsley, and stir to coat.
FAQ:
Nope, this recipe was developed to cook frozen shrimp in the air fryer. Keep it simple and toss your shrimp into the air fryer straight from the freezer.
Raw shrimp is a translucent gray color. Fully cooked shrimp will be opaque and have some pink bits to it.
You may use any size shrimp that you like in the air fryer. This recipe was developed using medium shrimp. To cook larger shrimp, just add one minute to the cook time and test for doneness. Once the shrimp are opaque with hints of pink, they are cooked through.
Recipe Tips and Substitutions
Were you looking for frozen breaded shrimp?
You should be able to still follow the same recipe for cook times. However, you shouldn’t stack them or let them touch. It will be far more important to keep them spaced out to keep your edges crispy. Then instead of coating the shrimp in garlic butter, just use it for dipping!
