Green Beans – You’ll want to start with fresh, trimmed green beans! . Fresh green beans will have the best flavor and texture but frozen may work as well. We haven’t tested it. Do not use canned beans.
Panko Breadcrumbs – For the breading you’ll primarily be using panko breadcrumbs which will add a crispy, golden brown exterior when air fried.
Parmesan – I’m mixing grated parmesan in with the panko as part of the breading to add more flavor!
Other – The remaining ingredients you’ll need to prepare the breading are all-purpose flour, eggs, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. You’ll also need some oil spray for air frying. Feel free to add any other seasonings you might like such as black pepper or paprika.
We love these crispy green bean fries because they’re a great healthy alternative to french fries, plus they’re just a good way to mix things up with something a little different. They’ve got so much flavor with the crispy panko and parmesan breading too! These are great for serving as snacks, appetizers, or a side.
How to Make Green Bean Fries:

- Blanch – Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. While it heats up you can prepare the green beans by trimming the ends and rinsing them well. Once boiling, add the trimmed green beans to the pot and boil for about 3 minutes. Remove the beans from the boiling water and transfer them to a bowl of ice water. Let them sit for 2 minutes and then drain the water and pat the green beans dry.
- Breading – These crispy green bean fries are perfectly seasoned! Start by adding flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt to a shallow dish and stir to combine. Whisk together the eggs with a fork in a second dish, and then mix together the Panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese with some more salt in a third dish.
- Dip – When you’ve prepared each dish start by dipping the green beans first in the flour/seasoning mixture, then the egg, and then the Panko. Fully coat each green bean as much as possible!
- Air Fry – When your air fryer has preheated to 390 degrees spritz the basket with some oil spray and arrange the breaded green bean fries in a single layer and spritz with more oil spray. You may need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer basket. Air fry for 5 minutes or until they’re golden brown and crispy!
- Serve – We prefer to serve these crispy green bean fries with some garlic aioli or my favorite dipping sauce, some homemade ranch dressing! But these green bean fries will go well with all sorts of other dips or dressings too.

FAQ:
To store leftovers you can keep them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for about 2 to 3 days. These are definitely best enjoyed fresh but they can be reheated in the air fryer.
The flour and Panko are not low carb so you’d need to replace those if you’re on a low carb or keto diet. A good substitute would be a combination of almond flour and Parmesan cheese. Crushed pork rinds would also work well.
You could skip this step if you like your green bean fries extra crispy. We boil them for a few minutes first so they have a tender interior and a crispy exterior. Feel free to make them as crispy as you prefer!
I’d recommend sticking to fresh green beans for this recipe! They’re going to taste better and will cook better from fresh.

Recipe Tips!
Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket, cook in batches if necessary or they will not cook evenly. Also don’t forget to spritz the green bean fries with some oil before air frying so that they get golden and crispy as they cook.
