This Air Fryer Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwich is crispy and buttery on the outside and loaded with melty cheese, deli ham, and a creamy sauce on the inside! This sandwich makes the perfect lunch.
When I first moved out of my parents house and was living on my own, I lived off of three main dishes. The first was Ramen noodles, obviously. I also ate an embarrassing amount of cereal, sometimes for all three meals in a day.
When I wanted something nice though, I went for a grilled ham and cheese. The problem was, in my early days of cooking, I couldn’t even do that well. Sometimes one side was burnt, or one side was soggy. Sometimes I didn’t have the right cheese, or I would use that ultra cheap, extra thin pack of “ham.” (Was it really ham? I’m unsure at this point.)
The point is, if you need a good ham and cheese sandwich ruined, I could pull it off. But not with this recipe. This recipe, with its use of the air fryer, always cooks both sides perfectly! The same is true for our air fryer grilled cheese recipe also!
I have learned over the years the right amount of mayo and mustard, the right cheese, and to use a quality deli ham every time for a great sandwich!
Ingredient Notes:
Bread – We prefer white bread, but wheat will work as well.
Ham– We are going to use thin sliced deli ham. We prefer it fresh from the deli counter, but you do you.
Cheese– We love swiss cheese, especially with the ham and mustard. Feel free to use what you love.
Condiments– We’ll brush the outside of the sandwich with bread, to toast it up, and the inside of the bread with mayo and mustard, to add flavor.
How to Make Hot Ham and Cheese in the Air Fryer:
Assemble the ingredients– Start by buttering one side of each slice of bread. Then, with the buttered side down, top two of your bread slices with a piece of cheese. In a small dish stir together your mayo and mustard then spread this over your cheese. Not you can place your ham on top of that then your last piece of cheese on top of the ham.
Air fry the sandwich – Air fry the assembled sandwich at 400 degrees F for four minutes. Flip the sandwich over carefully, then cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, until golden brown.
FAQ:
Belive it or not, Ranch dressing is great for dipping. Chips or waffle fries make a great side dish too!
The most important thing is to get good quality meat from the deli. Ham and Swiss cheese is the best in my opinion. Cheddar cheese with roast beef is also a great option. Roasted turkey is also super versatile pairing with almost any cheese type.
