Pepperoni – We buy already sliced pepperoni packages for this recipe. A thin slice will work best – we usually get Hormel brand, but whatever you like will work.
If you buy a pepperoni stick to slice yourself, no problem, just make to slice them nice and thin. A mandoline will work great here.
How to Make Pepperoni Chips in an Air Fryer:
- Air fry– Place your pepperoni in a single layer in your air fryer basket. You will likely have to work in batches if you don’t have a HUGE air fryer. Air fry for 8 minutes at 380 degrees F.
- Degrease– Remove your pepperoni to a paper towel-lined plate to drain the grease. Place another paper towel on the top to soak up any more grease. Serve hot or store in an airtight container until ready to serve. They’ll crisp up even more as they cool.

Seasonings:
These are perfect just as they are, no need to add any additional seasonings.
However, you can sprinkle on a bit of oregano, Italian seasoning, or red pepper flakes if you like!
FAQ:
Nope, these are meant to be eaten at room temperature, like a cracker or potato chip.
We love these with a chive and onion cream cheese. Ranch dip also tastes great, but may be a bit on the salty side.
Karly’s Tips!
All air fryers cook a bit differently, so you may want to check these around the 6 minute mark to see how they look. Continue cooking until a bit browned and dried looking. They’ll crisp up even more as they cool.
Press your pepperoni chips between two layers of paper towels to really remove any excess grease.
Store these in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Nope!

I never had any smoke (my air fryer rarely smokes with anything, including stuff people say smokes a lot). But…they blow all over the inside of the basket and just clump up in 2-3 big piles of pepperoni (because of the fan) they still taste ok, but are hard to separate at that point. Don’t really think there’s much you could do about that though.

I wish they weren’t so salty!

Have you tried low sodium pepperoni?

Thanks Karly.
I will look for it!

Pepperoni chips are awesome yummy! But SO much easier and faster in the microwave!

Would turkey pepperoni work? It has a little less grease
Karly says
I think it would, but I haven’t tested it.

There is a bit of smoke unless you have a fan on your stove near the fryer. Wonder how the “new” cup shaped pepperoni would work might give it a try.
laurie says
Tastes great but the smoke while they are cooking is horrible. I won’t be making these again because of the smoke.
Karly says
Oh no! We didn’t have much of an issue with smoke, maybe a bit but nothing too extreme. Might just be a different model of air fryer?
Doug Warren says
What’s in those small dishes next to the dip in the “How to Make” photo? Nothing is mentioned about them in the recipe; the only ingredients were pepperoni and paper towels. Also, I had to search for chive and onion cream cheese dip recipes, which might be better than just buying in a packaged dip at the store.
Karly says
It’s Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. We use store bought chive and onion cream cheese.
