My Air Fryer Croissant French Toast is a real breakfast treat. Serve croissants one day and turn them into the most decadent French toast the next with this easy air fryer recipe!
I’d have to say that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! Even if I don’t always eat it during normal breakfast hours.
Actually, I probably eat breakfast for dinner more often than breakfast for breakfast, if that makes sense. French toast is a favorite so I don’t see any reason why it should only be enjoyed during a few hours in the morning!
You can make French toast with just about any type of bread but for this recipe I’ve decided to use up some leftover croissants from the previous day. They’re just a little bit stale, which makes them perfect for French toast.
The French toast custard mix I’m using in this recipe is pretty versatile too. You don’t have to limit yourself to croissants; this batter will work well with brioche, sourdough, and others just as well as croissants.
If you’ve never had air fryer French toast before you’ve been missing out. I think I actually prefer it to skillet or griddle-cooked French toast just for the ease, and less mess.
If you enjoy this croissant French toast then I think you’ll probably love the fall flavors in this pumpkin French toast, too!
Serve this up with some air fryer chicken sausage or air fryer bacon for a tasty breakfasat.

Croissants – This air fryer French toast starts with day old or slightly stale croissants.
Eggs / Milk / Butter – Some pretty standard ingredients that you’ll need to create the French toast custard that you’ll dip the croissants into before air frying. For a richer, creamier custard you could use half and half instead of milk.
Cinnamon & Brown Sugar – The brown sugar and cinnamon add a little depth and sweetness to the custard. You’ll also add a pinch of salt to balance out some of the rich sweetness in the custard. If you enjoy vanilla in your French toast feel free to mix in a bit of vanilla extract!
This is a great recipe to plan for a couple days ahead of time! The croissants are best when a little stale so plan to leave them out on the counter overnight. Alternately, just pop them in a low oven for 15 minutes to dry them out a bit.
How To Make Air Fryer French Toast:
- Prepare – To begin slice the four croissants in half lengthwise to make a total of eight thinner croissants. Next you’ll prepare the French toast custard by adding the eggs, milk, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt to a shallow dish and whisking together until well combined. Finally, spray your air fryer basket with some oil!
- Dip – After preparing the French toast mix you’ll need to dip each of the croissant halves into it for about 30 seconds. This will let the croissants soak up that custard without becoming overly soggy. We don’t want them to fall apart when we move them from the custard to the air fryer.
- Air Fry & Serve – The croissant French toast should take about 8 minutes to air fry at 380 degrees, or until they have turned golden brown and are cooked through. Serve them hot and don’t forget the powdered sugar and maple syrup!
Recipe Tips!
There are lots of different air fryer models out there and they come in a number of different sizes. There’s a good chance your air fryer basket will not be large enough to cook all croissant French toast at once. In this case, you’ll need to work in batches. There are a couple of things you can do to help with this, and they are:
- Dip only the number of croissants that you’ll be cooking per batch. In other words, don’t dip all the croissants at once if you only have room to cook half of them in the basket. Wait to dip the next batch until just before air frying.
- You can keep the first batch of air fried croissant French toast warm on a sheet pan in a 250 degree oven until it is ready to serve with the next batch from the air fryer. Alternatively, you can set them aside on a plate and just add all pieces back to the air fryer at 350 degrees for 1 minute to rewarm them!

French Toast Toppings:
You can’t serve this croissant French toast without offering up some great toppings to go with it! And I don’t just mean maple syrup. But that’s a good start! Here are some more ideas:
- Whipped Cream: A dollop of freshly whipped cream is the perfect topping for French toast!
- Fresh Fruit: Slices of banana, fresh blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and many other fruits make excellent toppings for French toast.
- Buttermilk Syrup: We love buttermilk syrup and it’s delicious on this air fryer croissant French toast.
- Biscoff or Nutella: My kids love to spread their French toast with Biscoff or Nutella. Both melt into the warm bread beautifully. This makes for more of a dessert than a breakfast though.
- Maple Syrup: Highly recommend using real maple syrup instead of pancake syrup (which is just flavored corn syrup) for the best flavor.
We love to create a big breakfast of French toast, eggs, meats, and fruit.

FAQ:
Then I guess you’re just going to have to make this air fryer French toast with a different type of bread! The truth is that the flavorful French toast custard mix in this recipe can be used with just about any bread: brioche, Texas toast, and sourdough are probably the best options if you’re all out of croissants. I love sourdough French toast!
If you end up with soggy croissants then it may be that you soaked them in the French toast custard for a bit too long, or it could be that you just need to cook them for a bit longer! French toast should be a bit crisp and toasty on the outside and moist on the inside, so just keep cooking for awhile longer if necessary.
You can keep any leftover croissant French toast stored in your refrigerator in an airtight container for about 4 days. It may get a bit soggy or lose it’s texture though. I think that French toast is definitely best served immediately but you can still enjoy it the next day for breakfast if you have leftovers! You can reheat it in the air fryer on low heat.
