Air fryer edamame starts with a frozen bag of soybeans in the pod and turns them into a warm, savory snack with a salty bite. The tender beans make the perfect snack or appetizer. Once you try them hot from the air fryer, the plain steamed version is going to feel like it’s missing something.

I started making edamame in the air fryer on a whim one night when I wanted a snack that wasn’t chips, and it turned out so much better than I expected. The seasoning on the edamame adds tons of flavor, making this a savory snack that I keep coming back to. Every bit as good as the edamame you’d order from your local Asian joint.
I’ve been rotating it into the same lineup as our Air Fryer Frozen Potstickers and Asian Brussels Sprouts whenever I want something with those Asian flavors on the table fast.
My favorite trick is shaking the basket halfway through so every pod gets that browned, blistered look instead of just the ones on top. It’s a small step, but it makes a real difference in how evenly everything cooks. Even though you don’t eat the pods, they just look so good and I’m big on presentation!
3 Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe
Ready in under 15 minutes. There’s no water to boil and no steamer basket to dig out, just a quick toss into the air fryer.
Crispy edges, warm tender beans. The air fryer gives the pods a slightly blistered, browned look that you just don’t get from steaming or microwaving. It really amps up the appeal of these, even though you don’t eat the pods themselves.
A snack that feels like an upgrade. A little soy sauce, sesame oil, and chili powder turn a plain frozen bag into something you’ll actually crave.
Ingredient Notes, Swaps, & Tips:

Frozen edamame in the pod is what gives you that fun, hands on eating experience. Look for it in the freezer section near the other frozen vegetables.
Soy sauce brings the salty, savory base. Low sodium works fine if that’s what you keep on hand.
Toasted sesame oil adds a nutty flavor that regular sesame oil doesn’t have, so try to track down the toasted version if you can.
Chili powder gives just a little warmth without making these spicy.
How to Make Edamame In The Air Fryer

Add the frozen edamame to a mixing bowl with the soy sauce and sesame oil. Stir or toss to coat.

Add the garlic powder and chili powder, then stir until every pod is coated.

Transfer the edamame to the air fryer basket in a single, even layer if you can. Air fry at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through so the pods cook evenly. Look for browned edges on the pods before puling them.
Serving Ideas
These are great on their own with a cold drink, but I also like setting them out alongside other appetizers for game night or a casual dinner in. They pair well with anything Asian inspired, so serve them next to fried rice, a stir fry, or a bowl of ramen.
If you want to turn up the heat, toss the finished edamame in a little chili crisp right before serving.
