These Air Fryer Turnips are a quick & easy low carb alternative to potatoes, and a delicious way to add a new veggie to your weeknight dinner!

We always try to rotate new veggies into our meals and lately we’ve been enjoying these air fryer turnips!
Turnips don’t seem to be the most popular or well-known veggie (at least in my circle of the world), but they’re actually quite delicious! Earthy, sweet, a bit nutty – especially after roasting in the air fryer!
If you’re watching carbs, these really make an excellent alternative to roasted potatoes, but they’re also just a great option if you’re trying to broaden your horizons a bit.

Turnips – You’ll need 4 medium turnips, peeled and diced. Smaller turnips will taste sweeter and less sharp than the larger ones!
Avocado Oil – Adds richness and helps to crisp up the edges of the turnips. You could also use olive oil here.
Herbs & Seasoning – These turnips are seasoned with garlic powder, paprika, sea salt, and black pepper. We also like to garnish with some freshly minced parsley before serving. It adds color and flavor!
We love to try new things and these air fryer turnips are the perfect way to switch things up from the usual roasted potato side dish. Whether you’re eating low carb or just trying something new this recipe will having you looking at turnips in a whole new light!
How to Make Air Fryer Turnips:

Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees. Peel and dice the turnips and place them in a medium mixing bowl.

Add the avocado oil, garlic powder, paprika, sea salt, and pepper to the bowl and toss to coat.

Spread the turnips in an even layer in the air fryer basket.

Air fry for 10 minutes, shaking the basket once halfway through cooking. Turnips are finished cooking when they are tender. Sprinkle with parsley just before serving.

FAQ:
Turnips have a earthy, sort of peppery flavor that’s kind of like a cross between a potato and a radish. The smaller turnips tend to be sweeter and milder than the larger kind. When cooked they lose some of the strong flavor and they have a texture that’s similar to a potato. Definitely a vegetable worth trying and one that isn’t too offensive to picky eaters.
It’s definitely recommended! The skin is not very tasty. It’s tough and bitter so it’s best to peel them first.
Yep! Turnips are naturally low carb and we don’t add anything to the seasoning that would change that.
Recipe Tips!
- Crispy edges: Try cooking for an extra 2-3 minutes for crispier edges, just make sure not to burn them!
- Cheesy finish: Some grated Parmesan is a great way to add flavor. Sprinkle it on a couple minutes before the turnips finish cooking.
- Seasoning: You can switch up the seasoning here and use just about any kind you like! Cajun seasoning is a great way to spice these up.
