Air Fryer Red Potatoes are the ultimate side that’ll pair with anything! These potatoes are well seasoned and air fried to crispy perfection. You can serve them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
I’m pretty sure that I could eat potatoes for every meal and probably never get tired of them. They’re the one food that just doesn’t seem to get old.
That’s partly because they’re so easy but also because they’re so tasty. Air fried potatoes are healthier than deep fried potatoes and a lot simpler and less messy to prepare. Potatoes also crisp up nicely in the air fryer!
Let’s not forget that you can also prepare them in countless ways. Roasted, fried, air fried, sauteed, baked, boiled… they’re all good. And if you cut them differently, you have totally different foods. Like our air fried potato wedges and our air fryer roasted potatoes. They the ingredients are so similar, but the end result is so different!
We usually are Yukon gold people. Love that creamy buttery flavor. But lately I’ve been on a big red potato kick and these air fryer red potatoes have been on major rotation in our house.
They’ll work with pretty much any meal. Here’s an idea:
Make some crispy air fryer bacon. Save the grease. Then air fry these potatoes in all that savory bacon grease! Heaven, I tell you.

Red Potatoes – We’re using baby red skinned potatoes to start. They’ve got lots of good flavor and they are great for air frying! If you have larger red potatoes, just cut them smaller OR adjust the cook time accordingly.
Seasoning – These air fryer red potatoes are all about the seasoning! I like to use a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, salt, paprika, and dried thyme. You can definitely use other seasonings here. Some other good options are smoked paprika or a Cajun/Creole seasoning. We love Tony Chachere’s!
Fat – We usually start with a neutral oil like vegetable oil, canola oil, or avocado oil, but olive oil is also tasty. You could also use melted butter, goose or duck fat, or bacon grease.
I like to garnish these air fryer red potatoes with some parsley but there are lots of ways you can enjoy them. Fresh chives, cilantro, grated Parmesan cheese, or other types of shredded cheese. See below for more serving suggestions!
How to Air Fry Potatoes:
- Quarter – Cut the potatoes into quarters so that they are all similarly sized and pop them in a mixing bowl.
- Oil – Drizzle your preferred oil over the potatoes.
- Season – Sprinkle on the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, thyme, and paprika. Give it a good stir to coat the potatoes.
- Air Fry – Dump the potatoes into your air fryer basket and air fry at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Shake the basket a few times while cooking to make sure the potatoes air fry evenly.

Just about any meat dish would work, and there are plenty of ways you can enhance the potatoes themselves. Cheese maybe? Here are some good choices:
- Dressing/Sauces: Ketchup always goes well with potatoes, and some simple ranch dressing is another great choice. I’ve even been known to dip potatoes in a bit of mayo.
- Meats: The options here are endless. Serve these potatoes for breakfast with some air fryer sausage links, or for dinner with our air fryer turkey breast.
- Seafood: Potatoes also go well with seafood like air fried shrimp or air fryer salmon nuggets!
Recipe Tips!
If you’re in the mood for more than just potatoes you can easily add other veggies in to cook with them. Bell peppers, onion, squash, zucchini, and more would all pair well with the potatoes and the seasonings used here. We toss those in during the last ten minutes of cooking so as not to overcook the more tender veggies.
Not all air fryers cook exactly the same so you’ll want to do the fork test during the last 5 minutes of cooking to see how tender your potatoes are. Timing will also vary depending on the size of your potatoes.
FAQ:
These air fryer red potatoes take about 20 minutes at 400 degrees. You might need a little more time depending on the size you cut the potatoes as well as your specific air fryer.
We do not peel these red skinned potatoes. According to WebMD, the skin of potatoes can have up to 12 times more antioxidants than the flesh and the more color in the skin, the more antioxidants it has!
The potatoes will keep well in the fridge if covered in an airtight container. The USDA recommends storing potatoes in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. You can easily reheat them in the air fryer or the microwave. You can also freeze them for up to a few months.
