Buffalo chicken flauta are made extra easy in the air fryer and you’ll be impressed by how delicious they are! They get so crispy on the outside!

Flautas are delicious. They are basically a larger version of taquitos wrapped in a flour tortilla instead of a corn tortilla.

This recipe incorporates buffalo chicken into a traditional Mexican dish and oh boy was it tasty. A little spicy, a little creamy, and super addicting.

In our family, we like things a little bit hot, not overwhelming and this recipe reflects that. You can add more or less hot sauce to make it as spicy or as mild as you prefer.

  • Chicken- You need cooked, shredded chicken.
  • Cream cheese- Set this out in advance as you need it to be room temp.
  • Buffalo sauce- We use Franks buffalo sauce, but you should use your favorite brand or make your own homemade.
  • Tortillas- 8-inch tortillas work great for flautas in an air fryer.
  • Seasonings- You will want garlic powder, onion powder, and dried dill.

Easy Chicken!

You can hack this recipe by purchasing a rotisserie chicken from your grocery store and shredding it as soon as you get home. It is very easy to shred while it is warm. If you aren’t cooking the flautas for a couple of days, then just put it in a baggie until you are ready for it.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Flautas:

  1. Shred or chop some cooked chicken..
  2. Add cream cheese and buffalo sauce to a mixing bowl and stir to combine. Stir in the chicken and seasoning.
  3. Spoon mixture evenly between flour tortillas and roll them up tightly.
  4. Place them in an air fryer basket seam-side down, spray with cooking spray, and air fry.

Tips and Tricks:

Start with a rotisserie chicken to keep these extra simple and quick. You can use any combination of white or dark meat that you prefer.

To make these extra spicy, sprinkle in some cayenne pepper instead of adding extra hot sauce to avoid your mixture getting too wet.

We used 8-inch tortillas and filled each one with 3 tablespoons of filling. Your mileage may vary depending on the size of the tortillas you use.

How to store your leftovers:

Extra filling? Store it in a tightly covered dish in the fridge for up to 5 days. It makes a great cracker spread!

Leftover flautas can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to one month. Reheat in the air fryer or microwave.

Common Questions:

What is the difference between a taquito and a flauta?

Flautas are larger than taquitos and use a flour tortilla instead of a corn tortilla.

What do you eat with flautas?

I am a big fan of air fryer street corn. If you don’t want to mess around with that some Mexican rice with some white American cheese on top is great also!

  • Place 3 tablespoons of the chicken mixture  in the center of each tortilla and roll them up tightly.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.
  • Place seam-side down in an air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to work in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer. Spray with cooking spray.

Notes

To make extra spicy flautas, add cayenne pepper to the mixture. Adding too much hot sauce will make the filling too wet and cause it to leak out of the tortillas.

    5 stars
***** Made these tonight and I have to say they’re yummy! Used 3/4 cup of Frank’s which was fine for me but my wife would like just a 1/2 cup next time, and there WILL be a next time. Pressure cooked my chicken breast in the Instant Pot for easy shredding and followed your directions for the rest, except I added shredded Colby/Jack to each flauta prior to air frying because CHEESE! I only got 7 flautas out of my batch because I guess I like to roll fatties like I did in my younger days LOL. Could have fit them all at once using 2 racks, but I just put in 4 and cooked them while I rolled the others. Had enough to eat with just 2 but my wife wanted me to split her third one with her cause she felt a little bad about the carbs in the tortillas I guess. So I still have 2 to take for lunch tomorrow using 20 oz of chicken total. Thanks for this winning recipe!! Not sure how to rate and comment here, so I just typed in the 5 stars at the beginning, so you get the proper credit for this.
