Air Fryer Chicken Teriyaki is made with a simple homemade teriyaki marinade that creates the most flavorful, juicy chicken! Perfect for weeknight dinners and so simple!

We love the sweet, salty, and savory flavor of teriyaki sauce. It’s a popular sauce that’s perfect for chicken!
We’re using a simple homemade teriyaki marinade on chicken breasts for this recipe. Also works great with chicken thighs, if that’s more your style. Either way, you’re going to end up with a tasty meal.
We like to serve our air fryer teriyaki chicken with some white rice or this Air Fryer Fried Rice. Roast or steam some veggies and you have a simple, family friendly meal.
3 Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe
It’s ridiculously quick to prep. 5-10 minutes of prep work, a little hands off marinade time, and then the air fryer does it’s thing.
The marinade is simple but legit. No fancy ingredients or trips to specialty stores – just soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and a few pantry staples that create that sweet teriyaki flavor we love.
It scales perfectly for real life. Whether you’re cooking for one or feeding a small family, this recipe works. Plus, leftovers (if there are any) reheat perfectly.

Chicken – We’re using boneless skinless chicken breasts but you could also use chicken thighs here instead. This recipe would also work fine with bone-in cuts.
Teriyaki Marinade – This easy homemade teriyaki marinade is made with a mixture of soy sauce, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, distilled white vinegar, and seasoning including garlic, minced ginger, and onion powder. If you don’t want to use a homemade marinade you could also use a store bought teriyaki marinade or sauce, but we highly recommend this recipe for the best flavor.
We love the sweet and savory flavor that the teriyaki marinade adds to the chicken! It’s so juicy and flavorful and the air fryer does a great job of cooking it just right. Plus, it’s a lot easier to clean up. You can make this chicken ahead of time for meal prep and heat it later too!
Meat Thermometer
We use and love this ThermoPro meat thermometer anytime we’re making chicken, steak, or pork chops! It’s the easiest way to ensure meat is cooked to the perfect temperature every time and is a great gift for beginner cooks too!
Step by Step Instructions for Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken:

Add the soy sauce, water, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger, and onion powder to a large zip top bag and mix well to combine.

Pound out the chicken to an even thickness. Add the chicken to the bag, press out most of the air, and seal the bag. Smoosh the chicken around to coat it in the marinade. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 4-8 hours.

Remove the chicken from the marinade and place the chicken in a single layer in an oiled air fryer basket. Discard leftover marinade.

Air fry chicken in a single layer, working in batches if necessary, at 390 degrees for 10 minutes or until chicken reaches 165 degrees on an internal meat thermometer. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Recipe Tips!
- Don’t skip pounding out the chicken! Pounding the chicken to an even thickness will ensure that it cooks evenly in the air fryer.
- You can marinate for as little as 30 minutes but we prefer at least 4 hours to get the most flavor.
- Preheating the air fryer first before adding the chicken will also help to cook it evenly.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. If there isn’t enough room, cook in batches.
