Air Fryer Pita Pizza is the weeknight dinner shortcut your family is going to love. Crispy edges, melty cheese, your favorite toppings, all done in under 10 minutes on a soft, pillowy pita.

I’ve been testing different bases for air fryer personal pizzas for a while now, and pita bread is def one of my favorites. We’ve done Air Fryer French Bread Pizza and Air Fryer Bagel Pizza nights around here, and this pita version delivers that same cheesy result with even less prep.

The pita gets golden and a little crunchy on the outside while staying chewy inside, which is exactly what you want under a pile of cheese.

My fav part is the way we all build our own pizza. No complaining because mom ordered pineapple on half the pizza. 🤣 (Sorry, I gotta have pineapple!!)

One tip I picked up after a few rounds of testing: if you’re adding lightweight toppings like thin-sliced pepperoni, tuck them under the cheese. The air fryer fan moves fast, and the cheese melts quickly enough to hold everything in place.

3 Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe

It’s done in under 10 minutes. From preheat to plate, this is one of the fastest things I make.

Everyone gets exactly what they want. Pita pizzas are perfectly sized for one person, so each family member can customize their own. No picking off toppings, no compromises.

The crust gets genuinely crispy. The air fryer circulates hot air all around the pita, so the edges and bottom crisp up in a way the oven just doesn’t match at this speed. You get real texture, not a soggy base.

Ingredient Notes:

Ingredients for pita pizza spread out and labeled on a white countertop.

Pita bread is the base here, and it works beautifully because it’s just sturdy enough to hold toppings without getting floppy. Standard white pita is what I use most often, but whole wheat works just as well if that’s what you have.

Pizza sauce keeps things classic, but you’re not locked in. Marinara, pesto, or even a thin layer of garlic butter all work great as a base.

Mozzarella is the primary cheese here, and it’s the right call since it melts smoothly and stretches the way pizza cheese should. The added cheddar brings a sharper flavor that I really like. You can use all mozzarella if you prefer, or swap in a pizza blend.

Toppings are completely up to you! Pepperoni, cooked sausage, olives, bell peppers, mushrooms, whatever your family likes. Just remember that lightweight or thin toppings should go under the cheese so the airflow doesn’t send them flying around the basket.

How to Make Pita Pizzas

Preheat the air fryer and then start those pizzas. Brush the pita with olive oil and then spread on the pizza sauce.

Add all of your favorite toppings to the pizza.

Place the pizza in the air fryer and cook for 3-4 minutes, checking for your desired doneness. We like the cheese bubbly and the edges a bit golden.

Let the pizza rest a couple of minutes in the air fryer basket and then carefully transfer to a cutting board before slicing.

Serving Ideas

These are great as a quick dinner alongside a simple green salad or some air fryer frozen french fries. For a casual night in, I’ll put out a little spread of topping options and let everyone build their own before cooking them. You will have to cook the one or two at a time, depending on your air fryer size, but they cook quick so it’s not a problem in our house.

They also work really well as an after-school snack or a game day appetizer. Cut them into smaller wedges and they’re easy to pass around.

Storage

Store leftover pita pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To reheat, pop it back in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 2 to 3 minutes. This brings the crust back to crispy and heats the cheese through without making it rubbery the way the microwave does.

I haven’t tried freezing these myself, but I do think they’d freeze well. I’d try freezing the assembled pizza on a sheet pan for an hour before wrapping it in plastic wrap and foil. Cook straight from the freezer.

The air fryer makes the edges of the pita golden and just a little crunchy while the cheese gets perfectly melty on top. Under 10 minutes from start to finish. I love these for an after school snack or a quick meal.

Notes

If your air fryer tends to blow your food around, you can place the pepperoni and lightweight toppings under the cheese. The cheese melts very quickly in the hot air fryer and can help to hold things in place.
Every air fryer cooks a bit different and everyone likes their pizza cooked to different levels, so you’ll want to check your pizza around the 3 minute mark and just keep cooking until it’s as browned as you like.
