Air fryer hot dogs take just minutes to cook, without bothering to heat up the grill! Plus, you can toast the buns right in the air fryer along with the hot dogs! Just as easy as cooking in a microwave, but the result is far superior.

Hot dogs are a favorite year round lunch option. They are so easy to cook and there are so many different ways to top them you can make it a different experience every time! My kids will ALWAYS go for a hot dog!

Microwaving hot dogs isn’t my favorite and I don’t always have the time to fire up the grill. Enter the air fryer!

Hot dogs in the air fryer still get that roasty flavor, but without the fire!

So you get the quality of a grilled hot dog, in less time, with less effort, and with less energy wasted!

How to cook hot dogs in an air fryer:

The hot dogs can be placed in the air fryer basket in a single layer, don’t stack them. Let them cook for 3 minutes at 400 degrees F. We’re doing 4 hot dogs here, but you can make as many as will fit.

If you are like me, and you like them a bit brown, just cook them for another minute or two.

Want to toast your buns? Me too! After the hot dogs are done, but them in the bun and place them back in the air fryer for one minute. The air fryer should be turned off when doing this – we’re just warming the buns up and giving them a teensy bit of texture.

Cooking hot dogs in the air fryer is quick, simple, and the best part? Kids can do it themselves!

Hot dog topping options:

The best hot dog topping is a good hot dog chili! You can buy a chili sauce at the store, but I prefer the homemade variety.

Mustard is a given. Ketchup is a bit more controversial…what say you? Does ketchup belong on a hot dog?

Onions and relish can be found at every ballpark that sells hot dogs. So they are nice to have on hand too.

We serve our air fryer brats with a beer cheese sauce that would also be good on air fryer hot dogs!

Will my hotdogs explode or split in the air fryer?

Nope! I have never had that happen to me and I have made many of these things!

Do I have to heat up the buns in the air fryer?

No, but I think it enhances the taste enough to be worth it.

To answer your question: Does ketchup belong on a hot dog, in a word: NO. Ketchup doesn’t belong on anything.
If I am going to eat a hot dog, it had better be charred and swimming in mustard.

Haha! I do ketchup about 50% of the time, but I agree – mustard is a must and I love my hot dogs crispy and nearly black! 🙂
