We are fans of potatoes in the air fryer! Who isn’t right?

When it comes to potatoes, I lean heavily toward sweet potatoes. I love our baked sweet potatoes just as much as our air fryer baked potatoes. Such a simple and healthy way to enjoy potatoes.

We’ve shared our recipe for air fryer sweet potato fries before, but now it’s time for air fryer sweet potato wedges!

I love these because they have this perfectly seasoned exterior and a delicious, creamy, melt in your mouth interior!

Serve these Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges as a side dish to our air fryer chicken sausage or air fryer ranch chicken. They’re great on their own or served alongside a dipping sauce, like garlic aioli or ketchup.

Ingredients for sweet potato wedges on a white countertop.

Sweet potatoes – Select smaller sweet potatoes that are fairly uniform in size. This will give you manageable sized wedges to work with.

Seasonings– Any mix of seasonings would work, but we’re going for a smoky, spicy, savory vibe and using smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground cumin, onion powder, cayenne, and a bit of salt and pepper.

Cornstarch: We’ll toss the wedges in a bit of cornstarch to help crisp up the exterior.

When picking out your potato you want a firm potato, not a soft one. Ideally, the skin is intact and not cracked. This will give you the best results!

How to Make Sweet Potato Wedges in an Air Fryer:

Three step collage of the steps of making sweet potato wedges.
  • Prep- Wash the sweet potatoes and cut them into wedges. Try to make them as uniform in size as possible, so they cook evenly.
  • Coat– In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Toss the sweet potato wedges in this seasoning mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Sprinkle on the cornstarch and toss.
  • Air fry– Place the seasoned sweet potato wedges in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees F, flipping the wedges halfway through the cooking time. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your wedges and the air fryer model. The wedges should be golden brown and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

FAQ:

How do I store any leftover sweet potato wedges?

Store any leftover sweet potato wedges in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also freeze the fries and reheat them in the air fryer. Just spray them with some cooking spray and reheat for 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees F or until hot.

Can I eat these warm or cold?

These are best served hot, right after cooking, but they may also be eaten cold if you like cold sweet potatoes.

Recipe Tips!

These are really good served with a spicy mayo too! You can find the spicy mayo recipe we shared with our sweet potato fries recipe!

I like to sprinkle a little extra salt on these right when they are done cooking.  Something about the sweetness of a sweet potato really works well with an extra touch of salt.

If you are sensitive to spiciness, either add less cayenne or skip it entirely. The wedges will still taste great. Alternatively, if you like a lot of heat, add more cayenne. I find 1/4 teaspoon to be a good balance.

Looking for a simple dip? Try combining mayo + sriracha for a spicy, creamy kick!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 6 small sweet potatoes washed and cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes.
  • Wash the sweet potatoes and cut them into wedges. Try to make them as uniform in size as possible, so they cook evenly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Toss the sweet potato wedges in this seasoning mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Sprinkle on the cornstarch and toss.
  • Place the seasoned sweet potato wedges in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  • Cook for 18-20 minutes, flipping the wedges halfway through the cooking time. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your wedges and the air fryer model. The wedges should be golden brown and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
  • Remove the sweet potato wedges from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. If desired, garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

Notes

These are so easy and quick to make but if you make a double or triple batch and freeze half for another day, they are even faster and great to have on hand. After seasoning them, place them in an airtight freezer bag. Pop them in the air fryer for 18-20 minutes or until crispy.
If your air fryer is smaller, you may need to cook these in batches. If you overlap them too much, they will not cook through properly and the outside will not get that nice crispy crunch.
These pair great with a garlic aioli sauce, either homemade or store bought. I love the extra garlic, creamy flavor. Ketchup or a sriracha mayo also taste great with these. You really can’t go wrong.
I like to sprinkle a little extra salt on these right when they are done cooking.
